 Bathsheba, [x] elf || female
  Quote
Name: Bathsheba

Gender: Female

Species: Pure Elf

Appearance:

Bathsheba can be quite intimidating at first glance. Tall, as elves often are, she is nevertheless a head above most of the human women in her vicinity. Her skin is a luminescent white and her hair, similarly colorless, has been closely shaven on the sides of her head and braided into a thick rope in the back, the length of which falls halfway to her waist. She prefers to wear thick furs, often skewing the shape of her own body; beneath them she is slender but hard, her body conditioned by years of fighting in an unforgiving hinterland.

Yet these features alone would not be enough to set strangers on edge were it not for two weapons Bathsheba uses to her advantage: her helm and her face. Found, stolen, or bestowed (no one knows for sure), Bathsheba wears a winterdrake's skull to every battle, hunt, or ride in between. The helm is famous in Icemarkian legend, belonging to the long-dead hero Ganzhatu, and hides her face completely. Though the lower jaw is missing, its teeth remain intact and razor sharp.

In rare circumstances or when alone in quarters, Bathsheba will shed the mask. She has all the fairness and beauty traditional to the elves, but like a work of art that has been slashed with a knife, her share of that beauty is tarnished; great furrows have been carved into her face as the horrific testament to a long-ago battle. The scars curve down the left side of her face, starting lightly at the forehead, barely missing her blazing blue eye, deepening at her cheek and ending, at last, past her jaw. Such is the wound that very few are able to see Bathsheba's face without feeling revulsion, pity, or sympathetic pain, and the elf has grown quite skillful at reading the emotions of those she confronts.

Abilities:

Bathsheba is a fighter. The helm isn't the only relic of Ganzhatu that she carries; his sword, too, is her own, and named for its original bearer. Its hilt is winterdrake bone, and the blade is fashioned from enchanted ice filled with liquid that, when the sword itself is damaged in any way, will instantly refreeze the broken area. It is a greatsword and therefore quite a bit longer than the weapons of the southern warriors, meaning few of the elf's fights get particularly up close and personal; common for a people who are so thickly padded in fur that a dagger is unlikely to get far into the skin. This also means that what Bathsheba lacks in close combat she makes up for with pure, unadulterated strength. An undefended strike from Ganzhatu may very well cut an enemy in half.

She is also proficient in the manipulation of her own reiatsu, often manifesting in the ice element. Though far from able to summon a snowstorm at a whim, she can raise spikes of the stuff, impaling those within a short range. Her style of attack is frantic and overwhelming; this is echoed in her magic, which tends to throw a great deal of dangerous blows at the foe rather than concentrate on potency or accuracy. In rare circumstances where she is able to prepare for a fight, Bathsheba can also craft "icefire" spears: they are little more than hollow shafts, tipped with delicate, needlepoint blades and filled with liquid ice that freezes instantly upon exposure to air - not unlike Ganzhatu. When the spears hit their target, or near, they shatter into a spray of ultracold liquid that adheres to whatever is nearest. Many who have been injured by an icefire spear describe the sensation as one of intense burning, thus giving rise to its name.

And, of course, her dragon. Lethal as she may be just by herself, Bathsheba is impulsive, coldhearted, and angry - and were it not for Yasmin, she would have been dead long ago. In times of conflict, the Eastern will augment Bathsheba's power with her own vast reserves of energy, enabling the dragonrider to blitz her foes into defeat; but she is also the voice of reason, and will recall Bathsheba from the madness of bloodletting, sometimes by forcibly removing her from the battleground. If the scars the elf carries are not proof enough of her bullish commitment to the fight, the image of a giant dragon's talons carrying her over the earth like a mother cat clutching the nape of her kitten's neck ought to be enough.
