Sitamun, [x] divine sphinx || female
  Quote
Name: Sitamun

Aliases: Sita (close friends only)

Species: Sphinx (Divine)

Appearance:

If there was but one word to describe Sitamun, it would be "striking". Standing five and a half feet at the shoulder, she differs from her compatriots in that she commonly walks on two feet, like a human. In fact, much of her is more humanoid than most; her shoulders, torso, and arms closely resemble that of a woman, though they are finely muscled and have a light dusting of golden fur on them, thickening around her wrists and clawed fingers. For the sake of modesty, she wears a collared top that comes about halfway down her midriff, tied neatly at the back so that her wings are free of restraints. These wings are immense, numbering four in total and spanning nearly sixteen feet when fully unfurled; when tucked in to her back, the feathers can sometimes brush the floor (unless she is conscious of this and keeps her shoulders drawn tightly upward). As with other sphinxes, her lower half is similar to that of a lion, though hers has adapted to bipedal movement. Retractable claws on her toes and a tufted tail complete the feline appearance.

Sitamun's face is sharp and, though not conventionally beautiful, carries a wickedness that is a beauty all its own. Distinctly green catlike eyes rimmed with black khol form elaborate winged designs that spiral jaggedly along knifelike cheekbones. Her mouth is thin, but her teeth are astonishingly white, with pronounced canines. Exposed skin is deeply tanned but quickly turns to kitten-soft fur along her throat, melding into a colour reminiscent of the desert sands. She wears a wreath of bright golden leaves woven with white flowers that rests on a wild mane of gold-and-black hair, perpetually wind-tangled and falling to bare shoulders. Her hair continues down her back in a mane similar to that of a horse's, thinning between her wings to a fine line until it thickens again at the tip of her tail. Since Ascending to her divinity, she was also granted an unusual mask: shaped like a roaring lion's head, the metal is a burnished gold streaked in silver, with amber beads inset along the curve of each eye. Her wings are simply gold-and-black, like a sunstained turkey vulture.

Personality:

Sitamun is a sphinx in the prime of her long life. Born in Miina, she was quickly inoculated into the culture of scholarship, pursuing studies of geography, history and astrology with zeal. As she grew older, she learned of other Realms, and soon mastered a knowledge of their lands, their gods, their races and interactions thereof. To this day she is remarkably knowledgeable about a wide variety of subjects and takes no small pleasure in reminding others of it, particularly if they are about to perform some blunder, and has been known to withhold such precious information for her own amusements.

Sitamun is not a cruel creature, however. Once wife and mother, she is no stranger to love or the tugs of it upon the heart. After losing her daughter in a tragic skirmish with the Underground, Sitamun withdrew from her studies and travelled into the heart of the Mirage Desert, desperately seeking comfort from her misery. She was granted a vision of Azcen, who bestowed divinity upon her, warning her such a gift would come with great cost. Renewed in her loyalties, Sitamun returned, only to learn that her lover had taken his life in her absence.

Instead of isolating herself again, Sitamun returned to her studies, mastering them one after another. As she did so, she learned of her own enhanced abilities, and practiced them in secret. Divinity had granted her psychic connections to her surroundings far greater than she had ever presupposed, allowing her to sense emotions and occasionally thoughts from her peers without direct effort; it had given her a kinship with flame; it had kindled a fire of strength and life in her sore heart. She became accomplished at manipulating her fellows as well as her books, and, after a time, moved to Eden to take up residence among the royals there, feeling her talents were of more use to them.

At first meeting, Sitamun is often caustic and coolly amused. Beneath a hard exterior, however, she is passionately fierce about doing what is right, and will back down to no one - her unique power and position usually afford her the arrogance to say what she would. She has been known to take lovers but never keeps them, and is fascinated with beings of other Realms. It has long been a dream of hers to visit them for herself.

Abilities:

As a divine sphinx raised from the desert, Sitamun is especially gifted in element of fire; she sees beauty and duality in the element, both as a tool of civilization and a weapon of the cruelest, banest kind. Well versed in manipulating it to her wishes, she often calls on the qualities of fire without thinking about it - for example, in moments of anger, the temperature of the room may rise around her, oppressing others in its heat and weight without her consciously applying the effect.

This second-nature aspect of fire finds its opposite in ice or water. Sitamun likes the calm, placid ponds of her lily gardens and nothing more; oceans nauseate her, and she has never experienced a desire to wander into the icy regions of the Realms. A direct confrontation with these foreign elements would likely incapacitate her purely through shock, though woe betide the one who inflicts such pain on her after she recovers.
