Akatse's stomach rumbled.

She had been having a rather pleasant dream, she thought. Something about plants and flowers, and running. If anyone had seen the sleeping Rathar, they would have found her with her ears and nose twitching, paws flailing slightly despite being dead asleep. Slowly, gold eyes would open, and she'd yawn. The dark-furred Rathar would clamber to her feet, before arching her back in a stretch, mouth gaping open with a funny whining sound as she yawned. The Rathar would stretch the other way before standing up straight, shaking herself and feeling her bones pop, before her stomach rumbled again.

Akatse hadn't been hunting well lately. Being so large inside, she had to eat a lot and, thus, hunt a lot. She was rather talented as a hunter, but as a loner there was only so much she could do. Many prey animals were little more than mouthfuls to her, and didn't do much to soothe her rumbling stomach.

So the Rathar would pace away from her temporary den, twisting her head to pop her neck. Her black, wet nose would twitch, finding a familiar scent. Deer, and not of the sentient sort. There was also blood, and her mouth began to water. Akatse began to follow the scent trail, occasionally finding tufts of fur clinging to brambles and branches.

Borborygmos hungered.

The massive hydra was mostly asleep, save for one watchful head resting atop a large rock. A keen gaze swept over the land, on the lookout for anything large enough to make a suitable meal. Several deer passed by, occasionally pausing to gaze at the hydra's distant, recumbent form, but continuing calmly on their way when he failed to move.

Deer were simply too small to satisfy his hunger. Maybe if he could manage to catch and consume an entire herd, but they were simply too quick, and too agile, for him to catch many. He'd expend more energy trying to chase them down than he would gain from the few he'd manage to catch. So, he allowed them to pass with only a brief, disinterested glance.

However, a few moments later, something considerably larger approached, following along te deer's trail. He remained motionless, but gazed intently, tasting the air with a great, forked tongue, waiting for whatever it was to show itself, cautiously drawing his awake head slowly back behind the rock as his five sleeping heads began to stir.

The pitch black Rathar slowly stalked the deer's trail. Despite being several tons in weight, largely in muscle, her footsteps were nearly silent. Each stride was careful, planned, avoiding any sticks and pebbles that hadn't been shifted aside by the deer that had passed through some time ago. Keen gold eyes scanned around her, never staying in one place longer than was needed to determine that what she had seen was a tuft of deer fur.

Her stomach rumbled, the scent growing newer. She began to drop into a stalk, although being ten feet at her shoulder, it didn't help much. Her neck stretched out, head down to the ground, each step rolling into the next. A low rumble began, and died, in her chest. She began to broach the trees, entering the clearing where Borborygmos had made his home.

At first, she missed the Hydra, having been looking out for the familiar hide of a deer. It was only on the second pass of her gaze that she saw the Hydra, and froze. The bones on her joints began to stand up, and her hackles rose. A snarl crossed her muzzle, and a low rumbling growl began to sound in the clearing.

As the rathar stalked into the clearing, and spotted him, Borborygmos slowly began to rise as all ix of his heads stirred, and gazed down at the creature, sizing her up. Even though she was far smaller than he was, she would make a fine meal, unlike the deer who had recently passed by. Forked tongues flicked in and out of massive jaws as six pairs of eyes gazed down upon the rathar.

For a moment, the hydra simply stared at her, heads swaying slightly side to side and up and down, until she growled. In response, six fanged maws bared in a thunderous cacophony of roars before the massive beast surged forward, heads snapping and snarling as he thundered towards his prey, seeking to sink his teeth into her flesh.

Overwhelming as his approach might seem, fortunately for her it was powerful, but uncoordinated. Each head seemed to move with a mind of its own, pushing and jostling as each sought to be the one to catch her, as if it mattered in any way when any of them could satisfy the hydra's hunger.

The Rathar froze in place, claws digging into the soil. She peeled back her lips to reveal her fangs, alarmed to realize she had to look up to see the creature's heads. She was used to being the tallest, seeing as she stood ten feet at her shoulder. It had been a long time since she'd had to look up to someone, not down, and she was quick to realize she didn't like it. Especially when it was an enemy, one out for blood.

Akatse took a step back, fighting the urge to run. She was a wolf, a fighter! She would not back down to this beast! And then all of its six heads dropped their jaws and roared. She cowered, whining as her ears began to ring, and whirled in place, claws digging into the soil as she began to run away as fast as she could.

Branches caught at her, and she had to tug herself free, leaving clumps of fur behind as she fled, trying to put as much ground between them as she could.
