There existed an armory, on the outskirts of Everdawn, known for its quality armor and cheap prices, as well as its versatility in creating armor for a vast number of species. Inside the armory existed the sole son of its previous owners, Chrys, just finishing up his dinner.

Despite being alone in the closed shop, eating, Chrys was dressed from the neck down in armor, with the head piece removed only momentarily to allow him to get food to his mouth. He was no expert chef, but the meal he was finishing up was quite a bit better than usual. The reason for his celebration was simple enough. He'd spent the past week working on a new set of armor, and today just so happened to be the day he finished it.

It really wasn't all that remarkable, but he was still proud of it nonetheless. He could surely sell it for a decent price.

Just as he finished eating, the door to his house was blasted open, and a man dressed entirely in black cloth made himself present.

Chrys was rather shocked by this, quickly equipping his helmet and preparing to confront the door smasher.

The door breaker didn't bat an eyelash, cutting right to the point. "Give me your finest pair of armor or I'll take it by force"

At this moment, Chrys was focused on a single faction member, what he wasn't ware of, was the others outside.

Terva had decided to come further down into Vystriana as news reached her territory of the Factions growing presence in Felnova. It was one thing, rebellion, there had been thousands before and shall be thousand in the future and few had ever made her wish to get involved. But this, this was no longer just a rebellion. So down she had come to look, listen, gather what knowledge she could and see, just see how she could tip the balance of luck and fate in favour of those fighting against the Factions evil.

Now, now she was standing on a roof of a dwelling in the beautiful city of Everdawn. She remembered when it was closed off from any but those of Elven blood, now, now it had become a place of meeting and trade, a gem of prosperity in Vystriana. Her red-tipped copper coloured feathered ear twitched as her falcon eyes picked up the stealthy movement of men wishing to go un-noticed passed beneath her.

At one time she would have wished them luck and given aid to their nightly endeavours, but not now. With copper wings half spread for balance she followed them, her wolven paws moving silently across the roofs. With her focus and eyes locked on what was happening below she relied on her Tychokinesis abilities or "luck" to keep her footing silent and secure.

As she followed them, the large group split into two, one heading towards the merchant and armoury sector and the other further into the town proper. With a frustrated snap of her beak, she let the second lot go and followed the first group further into the town. Wanting to know if this was the actions of the Faction or if this was something else, and what the were after if it was.

"The faction requires weapons and armor for the ongoing battle for Vystriana, you are to surrender your finest sets free of charge. Now don't make me repeat myself again" The man repeated himself after Chrys just sort of stared for a minute without responding.

Chrys stood up after the man repeated himself, then walked closer, eyeing him up as he moved. The man was about an inch or two taller than Chrys in his armor, but this alone was no reason to be intimidated. The man had a single sheathed sword, and appeared to have nothing in the way of armor, which was odd for a faction soldier like this.

"Turn back, you are not welcome in my armory." Chrys was straight and to the point, but he had a feeling that words wouldn't be enough to drive this man away. And sure enough he was right.

"Have it your way then, if you're dead then I guess we can take all of it, so either way works for me." With that, the man brought out his sword and angrily aimed his eyes up at Chrys.

Chrys grabbed a rope, and took one of the swords from his back, then headed down to greet the man with a fight. He never spoke, he simply walked to sword range of the man. The man swung a few times, while Chrys remained on the defensive, judging his opponent's skill level. After a half a minute of this being repeated, Chrys dodged to the side, then quickly grabbed the man by the arms and pinned him to the ground.

As he had the man against the ground, a commotion coming from outside could be heard, leading Chrys to believe that some questioning could be in order.

"What's going on out there?"

Terva continued to follow the men as they moved out of the merchant quarter and into the residential section. The houses were mostly dark with only a few windows showing glimmers of candlelight through closed shutters.

The houses themselves were cared for but obviously the homes of the poorer citizens of Everdawn. She watched the group pause by the first house, it's windows dark and the house quiet. Without much ado, the leader motioned for one of the men behind him to kick down the door. With a splintering of wood and a grunt, the door was off of its hinges and the men were pouring through the dark opening. Faintly she could hear the startled screams as the sleeping residents were awoken by the armed men.

Her ears went back and she could feel a growl stir in the pit of her gut but she stilled herself. She still did not know enough and she wouldn't learn what she needed to if she acted too soon.

So she sat down and forced herself too let the events play out below her. The family was pulled out of the house followed by sacks of goods, mostly food and other everyday items that you would need to keep an invading force going. The women were begging them not to take what little they had, tears and fear in her voice as he husband tried to calm her.

The leader approached and with a sneer looked down at the scared family. "This is for the Faction, you should be honoured to help our noble cause! Or maybe you are a traitor? Allied with the Dragon scum?!" His voice sharpened a tad at the mention of dragons. His sanity, Terva thought to herself, was definitely in question. But then so were all who entered into the Factions ranks.

As she watched, however, he seemed to fall further into whatever delusion the Faction had fed to him as he continued to accuse the women of being a spy for the evil dragon scum, froth now adorning the corners of his mouth. There was always one, she thought as she watched him, somehow there was just always that one that danced on the edge of sanity like a drunk tightrope walker. She had to wonder why. Surely whoever organized leaders for missions had to notice the insanity?

With a mental shrug and a sigh, she knew where this was going, the man was not one to walk away without blood being shed. She stood and watched, hoping that something would distract him from the current fevered delusion he was living in.

A light had lite up in one or two other windows only to vanish when the people saw what was happening. She hoped that they had the sense to take their families away while the men were still distracted.

One of the followers cautiously moved forward. In his hand was a sack half full of food and what little precious items the family had. "Sir, we need to clear this sector by dawn..." His voice showed fear, but as he glanced at the family there was also sympathy there, as though he was aware that his leader wasn't in his right mind anymore.

"Nonsense!" He said, backhanding his lacky across the face. "We are here to root out those that are not loyal to the cause. Any unwilling to give are obviously against us." This last sentence was punctuated with the sound of a blade being pulled from its sheath.

With madness in his eyes, he turned to the family and lifted the blade. Terva lept off the roof, landing with grace, her power flowing out of her to surround the group. "Let them go." She said quietly as all turned to look at her, shock upon their faces at her sudden arrival.

The family gasped, surprised she was sure at the sight of a Sky'ree Gryphon. Not often seen beyond the cold wastes of Icemark nor where her race was also not often known for their kindness towards others.

The leader turned and stared at her, a spasm of rage crossing his face. Lowering the blade to point it at her, all pretence of stealth forgotten as he yelled at the top of his lungs, "Kill it!" His men jumped to try and obey, not wishing to be on the wrong side of him and his latest hatred. Blades lept to hands and one or two of the braver ones rushed her with wooden staffs.

She closed her eyes, feeling the strands of luck and events around her like an intangible web. She opened her eyes and with the grace of a dancer, she ducked and took a step forward, the staff whistling over her head to connect with the unsuspecting gut of another attacker. The feet of the staff wielder getting tangled as he tried to move out of her way. He fell with a thud, hitting his head on a raised paving stone, consciousness vanishing from his face.

The Faction member who had taken the staff to the gut, dived forward again, hoping to catch her from behind as another rushed her front. Spreading her wings Terva lept to the side, bouncing off the wall of the house, landing with a powerful thump to the back of the one coming from the front, driving him into the path of the still winded Factioner. Down they went, somehow cracking their heads together hard enough to bring about unconsciousness.

The fight, she muse, wasn't really very fair. She smiled, but it was fun. Another three formed up, more wary now of the Sky'ree Gryphon. She smiled at them and winked, calm confidence radiated from her. "Now boys, think about this, three of you are down already and not a single one of you have even come close to touching me... don't you think that luck might not be with you this night?"

They paused for a moment but then the leader moved away from the family and shoved them towards her, "It's just a Gryphon! Are you fighters of dragons or are you just stupid fools? Get it!"

With teeth bared the first swung his sword at her, with an open laugh she bounced into the swing landing on the flat of the blade, pulling it from his grip. Turning she hit him hard with the hard edge of her wing. the movement flowed into a quick duck under the edge of the second's sword with drove itself into the chest of the stunned man.

Shocked at what he had done he let go of the blade and took off down the street only to have a roof tile fall from one of the verandas and crack onto his skull, dropping him where he stood.

The leader and the last man standing stared at her, one in a rage and the other in horror, realization dawning that he wasn't going to get close to the fearsome gryphon.

Terva stood still, power and age clear in her eyes. Looking at the young man she said, "You know you are wrong, there is still hope for you yet. You stepped up and in your own way tried to help the family behind you. Because of that, I shall give you a choice, either you can attack me, in which case things won't go well for you. Or you can run, leave now, leave Everdawn and leave the Faction, for they are as doomed as your friends were this night. Which shall it be?"

For a moment what she said hung in the air, no-one moving. Then he dropped his knife and took off, not looking back as he rounded the corner.

She watched him go before turning to the former leader. "Now that leaves you..." She said. He stared at her, a wild look in his eyes. Then foolishly he rushed her. With a flick of an ear, she sent a wave of bad luck his way, slipping in the blood of the fallen man, he fell face forward, his own knife stabbing him in the heart.

She looked up at the family and with an with a sigh said, "The mad ones never learn..." They simply stared at her fear clear in their faces.

"I won't hurt you but I would advice grabbing what you can and leaving for a while.' They still didn't move. "Now!" She snapped. To get them moving.

She knew that a kind fate wouldn't await them once the actions of the night were found out.

The man struggled to get away, but Chrys had him tightly pinned against the ground. An old neighbor taught him this maneuver, there was no way that a man with that level of skill could escape it. Still, he continued to struggle, ignoring Chrys' questions.

Chrys sighed, getting out the rope and beginning to tie the man up as if he was a spider apprehending its prey. He took the sword and slid it across the floor, while putting his own sword away. Then he tied the man's arms and legs up. He dragged the helpless man over to an empty armor stand, then tied his legs to the top and let the man hang upside down.

The man carried on the entire time, struggling and shouting at Chrys. "If you refuse to unhand me at once, I will personally see to the execution of you and your entire family! Do you understand?!"

Chrys stared blankly at the man, surprised to see his continuing loyalty to the faction, despite being hung upside down in front of an armed man. "Alright, whatever then, I'm pretty sure the commotion outside is likely just a bunch of this same incidence happening to other folks so it really doesn't matter. I'm gonna just leave you upside down here, maybe if you hang there long enough you'll blossom into a beautiful butterfly." The man's face changed a little at the realisation of his predicament. "Hey, let me down! Seriously, I swear you'll regret this! Come back!!" Chrys chuckled a little, as he made his way outside, ignoring the man the entire way.

When he got outside, his expression changed. There were a lot of faction members, each targeting various merchants and robbing them as they attempted to do to Chrys.

He didn't stay quiet, quickly making his presence known. "Hey, faction lackeys, go home right now, or you're going to be sorry!" As soon as he did that, he'd become the faction's focus, rather than the merchants. Though as he scanned the area, he started to see that this might not have been the best plan of action. One of them would be a piece of cake, but there were a lot of men and women here, and two of them looked to be magic casters. There was no way he could take that many.

Terva sat and looked at the fallen Faction members about her, the ones that had simply been knocked out were starting to come around with sorry sounding moans.

Her mind racing as to what possibly good they could think was going to come out of this and just how widespread was this gathering? She wouldn't get those answers from those left here, they were to low down on the food chain to know their left hand from their right.

With a grace that only time and a total comfort in one's body. She stood and lept into the air, turning on a wingtip towards the merchant quarter and the second group that she had seen.

Regardless of whether or not Chrys could take on the faction, he was still going to try. He'd made a name for himself among his neighbors, and it was expected of him by now. Normally, there would've been cheering of some sort, as Chrys valiantly took down the enemy while the citizens chanted the title Mercy behind him. But this time was different. Nobody chanted, everyone just quietly stared. It was because they didn't expect him to win this one. Everyone stayed quiet out of fear of what would happen when he lost.

Still, Chrys removed the swords from his back, and taunted the enemy, who had only stared at him for the past few seconds. "Well? You just gonna stand there or are we going to have ourselves a real battle?"

With that, two faction soldiers made their moves, attacking head on. Chrys swung both swords at once, colliding with the swords of each of the soldiers, and sending them backwards. They were down, but they weren't out, standing back up while others stopped what they were doing to join in.

Chrys taunted again, but he knew he was going to end up eating his words. "You're gonna have to do a lot better than that if you want to defeat me, I don't fall as easily as those unarmed townsfolk you've been raiding."

The soldiers came at him again, but this time there were five of them. Chrys stepped backwards, deflecting the first sword that came at him, and kicking another one down. However, a faction woman hit his helmet from behind while he was preoccupied with the others. Luckily it was just his helmet.

He grabbed the woman by the arms, and tossed her back at the other two, knocking them all on to the ground. But the numbers proved to be a challenge yet again, as another soldier hit him in the side, and an arrow bounced off of his armor just a few inches short of an opening.

He couldn't keep this up, or they'd just keep coming back in larger numbers. So Chrys took his swords and shifted his focus to offense, driving them wildly at the enemy. He quickly overwhelmed the two men in front of him, who struggled while their comrades slowly picked themselves up off of the ground. It almost looked like Chrys was winning for a moment. But then a small but fast fireball came whizzing out of nowhere, hitting his chest plate.

Chrys fell to the ground, landing on his back. Before he could get up, the three soldiers from before piled themselves onto him. Those three, plus the weight of his armor was far too much. He was beat, and it was going to take some serious luck to get out of this one.

Terva flew low over the houses until she caught up to the second lot of Faction thugs. They had an armoured figure pinned down.

A small thrill went through her, even though she had changed her ways, but boy did she still relish a good fight! She let loose a high wild sounding trill as she dived over the top of the roof of an armoury, the heat from the forges chimney giving her a little lift as she passed over it.

She landed on the Faction member standing by the feet of the armoured man. The force of her landing throwing him backwards and into the cobbles hard. He landed and rolled in a way that made it clear that he wasn't going to be returning to the land of the conscious for a while.

Eyes bright with the idea of battle she looked around the square noting the merchants huddling in groups and the momentarily startled Faction.

A smile tugged at the corners of her mouth her odd humour mixing with the remembered rush of battle. Folding her wings neatly along her back she winked at the crowd of merchants in general and said, "Well now... it has been a while since I silenced a crowd at the sight of my beautiful self..." Turning she looked down her nose at the Faction members, "A pity that a good half of you are of a lower quality of being than I am used to." A dark sarcasm tinted every word as she spoke.

One of the men gripped his helmet, ready to remove it, but then stopping suddenly, loosening his grip and turning his head away. At the same time, a loud noise could be heard, sounding almost like a bird of prey. Chrys tried to look up to see what it was, but as he was looking, it seemed the creature had come to him, knocking down one of the men at the end of his feet.

A gryphon?! Chrys tried to get a better look, but the angle of his helmet combined with its design made it difficult. Although, the gryphon spoke, and it sounded like they were on his side. Confirming his suspicions, was the soldiers holding him down, changing to defensive stances. In fact, they seemed to let up a bit, possibly even enough for him to escape.

Putting all his effort into one quick movement, Chrys knocked the remaining soldiers off of him, and rose to his feet once more. Gripping his swords and preparing to fight again. He kept his back to the gryphon, but backed up closer to them, hoping to quickly get a short conversation in if possible. "Gryphon, if it's a fight you want, then please by all means, take down anybody in this square bearing that symbol." Chrys pointed at the clothing of one of the faction soldiers as he spoke. "But please, spare anyone here who does not, I assure you, these are good people. Please assist me in assisting the-" Chrys was cut off when another fireball struck him. This time he didn't fall down, holding his ground as the soldiers came to strike again.

Terva quirked an eyebrow at the comment about only harming the faction members. But let it slide as she saw the armoured man take another fireball to the chest. We do all make mistakes when under stress after all.

She followed the trajectory of the fireball and spotted the magic wielder, half hidden behind two other Factioners.

"Ready or not here I come!" She said as bounced towards the group, a fireball was sent in her direction but she simply wrapped herself up in good luck and it whizzed past her head, instead, hitting the back of one of one the Factioners surrounding the armored man.

Keeping her momentum she crashed into the two men protecting the magic user, sending them sprawling another fireball sparked into being but as it did something warped around it and it exploded into the face of its creator.

Flowing over the fallen magic user, Terva turned and readied herself to face two she had knocked off their feet.

Whether the Gryphon understood his plea or not, they appeared to leave him be and only target faction members, so all seemed good on that end. Though Chrys couldn't focus on the Gryphon, he had his own problems to deal with. He readied his swords again, taking on the faction members in the opposite direction to the way the Gryffon went.

Right away, he ran at the ones who had been pinning him down first. He slashed aggressively at them, but both of the ones he could've hit got out of the way swiftly, moving to opposite sides of the armored warrior, rather than trying to come at him head on. A wise tactic. Though Chrys didn't have time to stand there admiring the enemy's positioning, as a third warrior ran at him with a sword at the ready. Rather than slashing, Chrys started backing up, driving his foot forward when the man got close. The armored foot collided with the man's stomach, and he quickly fell to the ground.

Soon after, Chrys was hit by two swords, one from the left and one from the right, as the two soldiers from earlier took advantage of an opening to strike him. Chrys swung both swords out at once, but he was two slow and the soldiers evaded him again. Following this, an arrow struck his head, thankfully getting deflected by his sturdy helmet.

He'd had enough of the archer, so he decided to change targets, going into a full on sprint toward them. The archer let loose another arrow, but it did nothing, Chrys quickly brought his sword to the archer's bow, and cut it beyond use. Bringing his foot up, he kicked the archer to the ground and left her to be. As he did this, one of the two soldiers from before tried to attack from the side again, but were struck down by a fireball.

Chrys turned, looking at the fallen woman in confusion, and then looking back at the Gryphon. The Gryphon didn't appear to be paying attention, so it had to have come from one of the faction mages. A lucky break if that was the case.

There was just one faction soldier remaining on his end. And while he seemed to be doing fine against three others and him at once, he still remained wary. This was a man raised to fight dragons, which on its own was a cause for concern.

Chrys wasted no time, running at the man and swinging both swords. The soldier evaded both swings, then bashed Chrys in the chest, sending him stumbling backward. The man then tried to slash at him again, but Chrys gathered himself and managed to clash swords, sending the soldier's flying from his hands. With the sword gone, Chrys hit the man with the hilt of his other sword, sending him to the ground.

Faintly she was aware of the other fight going on, but her focus was now on the two men before her. She crouched and flicked her tail, waiting for one of them to make the first move.

Unsteadly the one on the right wavered to his feet and with a roar charged her. With a dance-like move, she dodged him, sending him falling into a stack of empty barrels. They wavered and then toppled, hardwood meeting unprotected head in a thunderous crash.

As they fell she weaved the luck of the night around them, sending a few off towards the embattled group across the square. tripping up feet and making Faction members dive out of the way.

Turning to the second man, steadier on his feet then the first had been he eyed her with care before twirling his sword about and setting his feet in a ready position. Amused Terva flared her wings, making herself seem larger than she was.

Eye eyes narrowed as she darted in towards him, checking his reaction time. The blade whistled past her beak, curving at just the right angle to miss her. He was fast she noted as she circled him, feeling her power flow around her, eyes noting and dismissing the possible objects she could use against him as she saw them scattered across the square.

"I have to admit, you might be the most fight I have had to face in years..." She said to him as she herded him slowly towards the nearest wall, ropes, and tangles of netting adorning it.

"Silence beast!" He said as he made a wild swing at her, she didn't dodge, instead, she moved with the blade, letting him overreach and lose his center of gravity. Then just as he had reached the perfect point of imbalance she darted in and bit down on his arm, just at the elbow. Her powerful jaws breaking the bone with a snap. Dropping the blade from listless fingers he screamed and stumbled backward into a net entangling himself as he fell.

Cursing and screaming he hurled more insults at her, shaking her head she tutted the language. Turning away from him she looked to see how the armored man was doing.

After the gryffon turned, a merchant went up to the faction soldier on the ground, and knocked him out using a stool, putting an end to the endless number of insults spewing from his mouth.

Meanwhile, Chrys had gone around with a rope, and tied up 3 of his opponents, and was in the process of tying up a fourth. Two of them were unconscious, while the archer and one of the men were not. However, they kept their mouths shut as opposed to the man who'd been brutally chomped and then knocked across the head with a piece of furniture.

Chrys looked around, scanning the area. It seemed that they'd taken out the faction troop. At least in this area. Chrys wasn't too sure that they'd restrict themselves to the merchant sector alone. Either way, he felt the need to thank the gryffon for the time being. So he started walking over to them.

"Thank you very much gryffon." Chrys got down won one knee, and bowed to her. "My name is Chrys, but I am better known as the merciful warrior in this town, please, tell us your name so that we may give thanks. There is no way we could have overcome the faction's troop had it not been for your help."

Upon closer look, he could tell that she was a sky'ree gryffon, with the body of a wolf. But that was all he could really tell from appearance, he'd never seen a gryffon in real life before.

Terva looked over the square to see that the man has taken down the last of the Faction members. Behind her, she heard the thunk of stool meeting head as one of the braver merchants took it upon himself to end the tirade of language from the man. But she didn;t turn around as the armoured man approached and knelt before her in a most solemn manner and preceded to thank her for her help.

Some not to small part of herself delighted in the serious tone and the kneeling but most of her was more than a little taken aback by the formality of the thank you from the armoured man who turned out to be called Chrys. She was also trying hard to keep the amusement from her face at the whole scene.

"Thank you, Chrys." She cocked her head to the side and looked at him. "I am happy to have helped, the Faction is no friend of mine." Her voice was smooth and had warm tones to it.

She looked about the square and then continued, "What are we going to do about the Faction? I doubt that this and the other group that I took down are the other two out there. Is there some way to learn what their plans are?"
