The blast had barely caught Aevitas' tail, but the force sent her spinning away before she could right herself several hundred feet lower in the sky. Kain was terrified, and had almost been knocked off; he was no strong warrior like the rest of them, and yet he was helping fight this... thing?

"Stay strong, and do not fear so much," the golem warned as they sped back upwards. He was breathing hard, and his vision blurred; he clung so tightly to the Divine's back that his knuckles shone white. "I will not let you come to harm. You know that."

The xeriin wasn't nearly as heartened as she might have hoped.

As the monster snarled, its mouth bound, it stopped and reached up with its massive claws to aim lumbering swings at the dragons around its face; but they were too quick, and several had begun to aim blasts of reiatsu and light at its eyes as their leader had. "Knock it down! Get it off balance!" someone yelled.

"A marvelous idea," Aevitas replied warmly, and before her rider could object (and object he would have), she dove straight for the beast's face with a lightning-strike of light energy.

As the others fought on, Phantasm was writhing on the ground below.

“Arctus? Arctus!” He hissed and spat venom which quickly ate at the foliage where it landed. The world was rolling, his ears were ringing, and he tasted bile on his tongue. Closing his eyes barely helped. Chest heaving, he kept his head low to the ground while he sought Arctus. He found him against a tree, unconscious.

”Arctus, we need to move.” Nothing. The lack of response from the Fallen added to the panic, but at least he was alive. Phantasm lifted his head and tried to fight the nausea that threatened to press him back to the ground. They had to get out of the way. Another attack could come at any moment, and Phantasm wasn’t willing to wait for death.

Glowing red venom and blood dripped down his chin as he licked his nose. He spat one mouthful out. Then two. After three, liquid was still flowing from his fangs. Carrying Arctus like this was out of the question. The dragon let out a frustrated scream before settling next to the tree. He unfurled his wings protectively above his rider and watched dark blood drip down onto his breastplate. This would have to do.

|Kasarial!| Alaric's tense mind-speech reached the great Black, and she drew away from the beast for a moment so she could listen, a feeling of alarm rising within her. |Please, lend me your power. We must bring the beast down swiftly.|

She eyed the great beast again, a silent snarl on her maw, before she directed a large burst of her own energy to flow through their connection to Alaric. The aura construct he'd conjured shifted colors as the combined reiatsu of dragon and rider intertwined. At once, a large spike of reiatsu, aimed at the beast's maimed eye, formed and drove itself into the ruined socket.

|Everyone, focus your power into the spike! Drive it into the beast's head! I will hold the beast's mouth! he ordered, forcing any hint of the strain being put upon him from his mind-voice. Kasarial, even as she fed more energy to Alaric, dove upon the great beast, her shadowy forms coming together just in time for her to strike the aura-spike and drive it further into the beast's head before she dove out of the way, swooping low before rising into the air beyond the great monster's reach.

Symiria did as Alaric commanded, her white reiatsu mixing with Thio's swirling dark to color and strengthen the spike. She shuddered with the effort, teeth gritted and grief-driven rage in her golden eyes.

Die!

Wyath and Hykkra had both heard the command as well, and they too joined their energy into the weapon. While the elf's reiatsu joined the spike itself, Hyk's magic manifested itself as a powerful blast of air, which served to drive the spike deeper into the beast's skull.

The resulting scream of agony from the creature's maw was grotesque, and more than one dragon and rider grimaced as the grating squeal echoed against their ears.

The beast roared, rearing as it stumbled back; the ties around his muzzle snapped and it gave another pulsing shriek, blood spilling from its jaws to rain on the ground below. Fire, white lightfire, burst along its eyes and face, erupting from the combined forces that attacked it - its flesh was rent by it, consumed from the inside out, and as it stumbled back it began to fall.

Kain could know no such triumph, however. All he heard was an alarmed, garbled string of words in his mind as piercing sound washed around them - and then Aevitas dropped out from underneath him. Falling, he was shocked too much to even scream, as they careened towards the ground...

~

Arctus woke slowly. Pain was the first to greet him; and then ringing in his ears. The Fallen groaned and opened his silvery eyes, and the first thing he saw was his dragon crouched over him. "Phant," he rasped, pushing himself up. How far had they fallen? He couldn't move his right arm, and could feel nothing below the shoulder. At this point, he wasn't sure if he could even stand. "What-"

And then he saw the Beast stumble backwards, beginning to fall...

As the binds he was maintaining snapped, the backlash of power almost made Alaric pass out. Feebly grasping for a handhold with his single arm, he slid across the beast's hide. But it wasn't before a massive paw lifted him from the beast's body as it convulsed, and he only barely comprehended what was happening when Kasarial slammed the reiatsu spike fully into the beast's head with a mighty blow before she swooped swiftly away from it.

Struggling to keep his wits about him, he saw the dragon-shaped golem begin to fall. |Help them,| he mind-spoke, managing to send one simple message to the great Black before losing consciousness. Kasarial's head snapped up, and she saw the xeriin and golem plummeting. Grimacing, she wasted no time, conjuring a portal and diving through it.

She reappeared beneath the pair, wings spread wide as she let the metallic creature fall into her, grunting with the impact as she seized the golem with her hind legs. Then she carefully caught the xeriin in her forepaw before rolling right-side up, cradling Kain and Alaric in her forepaws as she struggled to keep from plummeting from the sky.

It was a rough landing, but far more gentle than an uncontrolled fall would've been, and she lost her grip on the golem when they touched down, and only barely managed to keep from losing her grip on the pair of humanoids in her grasp. She hissed in pain as her right wing briefly snagged on a protruding rock, leaving a small tear in the membrane.

Had it not been for Hykkra's ability to fly and fly fast, Wyath and the Grey would have been hit by the falling beast; as it was, they barely had time to swoop away as the monster tipped over, skimming under the massive shape in the nick of time. Too preoccupied with getting out of the way, the pair didn't notice Vitas falling until it was too late, and they could only watch in shock and horror as their closest friends dropped from the sky.

The relief as the leader--whatever his name was-- and the Black that he rode appeared was short lived; the thought that they would have watched their friends die had shaken the dragon and rider, and they dove swiftly toward their friends, their fear and concern evident in their faces.

"Kain? Vitas! Please tell me you're okay, holy fuck."

~

Symiria watched the beast fall with a measure of jubilation; she wanted to see it fall and burn, and take its last shuddering breath before falling into the Void, like it had sent so many of her friends... and Gilthan.

Grief washed over her again, and even Thio's comforting thoughts could not halt the tears that rose to her eyes and spilled onto her cheeks. She turned away after a moment, searching for the one other that might understand; it was the sight of his limp form, and the Black that stood over him, that dried her tears, and suddenly Thio was diving fast, heading toward the man they considered a friend...

Please don't be dead too...

Phantasm still heard nothing but ringing, and so could only see his rider start to move. He had kept his eyes down towards Arctus, as every time he tried to look up the nausea came back full force.

"I can't hear you speak," he muttered after spitting out a mouthful of venom. "But if you are able, we should move." Then Phantasm saw movement out of the corner of his eye and swung his head around. A large shape twisted, and that was all he could make out before he was forced to push his head back to ground by a surge of vertigo.

As the massive Black landed, sending up a spray of sand, rock, and chunks of earth up into the air, Kain tried to cover his head from the debris; as soon as they stopped, the wolf xeriin scrambled free, panic numbing him against a fractured ankle that caused him to stumble and fall. "Vitas!" he shouted; he couldn't hear her in his mind, and she lay motionless where she'd fallen. "Aevitas! Vitas! Vitas!"

There was no answer. He half-ran, half-hopped and stumbled towards the fallen golem, and fell at her side. Vaguely, he knew that Wyath was there, and his dragon, but he couldn't pay them any mind. Lupine ears laid flat and tail fluffy with fear, he reached to take hold of the Divine Dragon's smooth head with both hands - and was shocked by a flicker of energy that crackled around her lightless gems.

"N-No," he whispered. "No... Vitas? Vitas!"

~

The Beast was falling towards them. As a bout of colored lightning scored across the stormy sky, it lit the dying creature that had been pushed off balance... right in line to crush them beneath it's horrible mass.

"Phant!" Arctus shouted, scrambling to his feet as best he could - dizziness washed over him, and he couldn't move his arm, but he shoved against the Black's flank to try to get him to move. The monster was falling, and they had to get out of the way - but could they move in time?

"Phant, fly!"

Thio was flying as fast as he could - which was a considerable speed, to say the least - but he still wasn't fast enough. Symiria clung to her dragon's back, her pale hair whipping back behind her as the air roared over them, but they had started from a distance too far; they wouldn't make it before the beast fell on top of her friend and crushed him.

Daama, PLEASE!

~~~
Hykkra landed in a blast of wind, hardly braking as they collided with the ground, leaving a good furrow behind them, and immediately jumped to Kain's side, nosing Vitas's limp form.
"Fuck," Wyath muttered, his heart dropping as he saw her unresponsiveness. "Kain..."
He didn't know how to fix a golem. Sure, he was good at that elemental shit, but he didn't know how to give it life, how to bind it to spirits, how to make it do what a golem was supposed to do. "Vitas..."
Hykkra growled lowly, nudging the golem again, before his head whipped around to glare at the Fallens, eyes flat with anger. "They did this," the dragon accused, lip curling in a snarl. "If not for them..."
Wyath put a hand on the dragon, stilling him for a moment. "No, she can be saved," he stated, though he wondered at the truth behind the words. Could she? Who could save her, if any? She wasn't... dead, was she?
